Joffe MediCenter was founded in late 2007 by Stephen N. Joffe, M.D., and his son, Craig. Stephen Joffe, M.D. FACS is the founder and former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LCA-Vision, Inc., one of the leading providers of laser vision correction services in the United States under the LasikPlus brand.
Formerly a practicing general surgeon and tenured, full professor at The University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Dr. Joffe recognized in the mid-1970s the revolutionary role of laser technology in significantly advancing patient care across medical disciplines.
In addition to founding LCA Vision and serving as its Chairman & Chief Executive Officer for over a decade, Dr. Joffe was also the founder of a successful laser technology device company and previously established a professional management company that assisted hospitals and medical centers throughout the United States in managing their laser and minimally invasive surgery programs.
Needless to say, from a relatively young age, Craig Joffe grew up thinking, strategizing and dreaming about laser vision correction. Craig was on the Board of Directors of LCA Vision in its infancy from 1995-1997 while completing his legal studies at Harvard Law School.
After a number of years working in corporate finance in New York and London, first as a transactional attorney and then for a large media and entertainment company, Craig followed his passion and moved with his family back to Cincinnati in March 2003 to work with his father to grow LCA Vision.
Together, Dr. Joffe and Craig successfully grew LCA Vision exponentially over the course of several years. They led the business to annual revenue growth of approximately 50%, fuelled by both expansion across geographic markets and strong growth in existing markets. Traded on NASDAQ, the common stock of the Company grew by well over 1,000% in this three-year period.
The commitment to passion quality of care that has been a cornerstone of Dr. Joffe’s career for over four decades was both successfully passed onto, and shared with deep conviction by, Craig. As LCA Vision continued to expand, both Dr. Joffe and Craig felt an overwhelming need to "go back to their roots."
So, after a tumultuous 2006, in which personal and professional interests between Dr. Joffe and Craig collided – as documented by some headline articles that ran in the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek, among other press coverage – Dr. Joffe and Craig beam with pride and excitement as they reunite to launch Joffe MediCenter, together.
It is both fitting and with much honor that Joffe MediCenter is launched in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area with David Whiting, M.D. as Medical Director. An ophthalmic surgeon, Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Whiting is one of the most experienced refractive ophthalmologists in the United States.
Dr. Whiting has performed laser vision correction surgery on approximately 40,000 patients in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. A graduate of Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Whiting also received a graduate degree at Stanford University through the division of Ophthalmology Research and has held clinical staff appointments at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
Prior to joining LCA Vision, where he was Medical Director for approximately 8 years, Dr. Whiting served as Medical Director of the Allina Medical Group Eye Services Division of the Allina Health System HMO. For over 6 years, Dr. Whiting also served as Medical Director of Consultative Skin Care, P.A., where he supervised a number of aesthetic procedures and realized the power of these procedures to help clients regain their youth, vigor and confidence.
